Return of the mad mangler ISBN: 9780141310756
Gates, Susan
Published by Puffin, 2002
Leon is dyspraxic. He spends lots of time in an old oak tree, hiding his clumsiness. But when the tree is stolen one night (with the use of a helicopter and some strange blue jelly), he is horrified and angry. The rest of this remarkable adventure, involving Leon's spiky teenage sister, his baby brother whom he is trying to potty train with a quacking duck potty, a mad female scientist, an African lad who appears with yet another kidnapped tree, and an aging rock star called Goldilocks, takes a great deal of suspension of disbelief. Add in a giant computer gone haywire, a couple of historical characters wrenched from the past of the two trees, and a mythical mad mangler, and you have a story that is almost too brim-full of imagination. Kids with dyspraxia (clumsy-child syndrome) will thoroughly enjoy Leon's heroic antics - as will lots of others too.
