Giraffe Is Left Out - A book about feeling bullied (Behaviour Matters) ISBN: 9781445127675
Dunton, Trevor and Graves, Sue
Published by Franklin Watts, 2014
In Jungle School, Monkey, Little Lion and Giraffe are best friends, and when new boy leopard joins the class, teacher says he should sit at their table so they can make him feel welcome. Giraffe is not pleased. 'He did not want to make Leopard feel welcome.' In the playground, he refuses to let Leopard play football, and the others tell Giraffe he is 'being very unkind'. The next day, though, he gets his comeuppance when everyone in the class is given an invitation to Leopard's birthday party except Giraffe. He is upset and feels left out, but his friends explain that if he had been kinder to Leopard, he might have had an invitation too. When the teacher insists that Leopard and Giraffe must team up to make a boat, Giraffe is indignant: Leopard is not his friend. She insists anyway, and the two of them are soon in the thick of making their boat and discover that they have different talents that help make the process go more quickly. Teacher compliments them on their boat and says that they have worked well together. After a game of football in which the four friends play together, Giraffe apologises for being unkind, and there is a forthcoming invitation to Leopard's party. They have a lovely party and promise each other that they will play tomorrow again and 'no one will be left out at all'. There are two pages of information for teachers and parents on how to use the book. A cheery, comic-style production.
