Can I tell you about Multiple Sclerosis?: A guide for friends, family and professionals ISBN: 9781785921469
Amos, Angela and Wiltshire, Sophie
Published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2016
This is another in the series of really excellent books on health conditions and disabilities. Aimed at children and young people, it also will be great for adults who want to know about MS. The author of the book has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis herself, and she tells the story in detail about her many symptoms that developed over one summer and how the final diagnosis was made. Her family are involved in the story too, and her husband and both children, one 14 and one 10, explain about their reactions to the diagnosis and what it has meant to them. We learn a great deal about what causes MS, the symptoms, the different types, the professionals who can help, the different sorts of medication, how it can be managed by the individual involved and how those around him or her can help manage it too. The informal style of the author and her use of plain language make the whole production very accessible, and the black and white illustrations add to the whole as well. An eminently useful book about a subject that isn't often covered for children. Available from Amazon, from good book shops, and from the publisher: www.jkp.com.
