Where's Mom's hair? - a family's journey through cancer ISBN: 9781896764948
Hogan, Sophie, Watters, Debbie, Watters, Emmett and Watters, Haydn
Published by Second Story Press, 2005
When Debbie Watters was diagnosed with cancer, she and her family decided to produce a book about the experience. In excellent black and white photos, we see the hair-cutting party they had when Debbie's hair began to fall out (the boys and dad had theirs cut too!) and the party they had when her chemo was finished anad the hair was growing back. In between, we have pictures of mum having her therapy, along with basic explanations of what is happening. We see how tired she gets and lots of funny pictures of mum and the boys in wigs and hats and scarves. This is a really upbeat production showing life with cancer in non-scary but honest terms. A Canadian book, it is available in the UK from Gazelle Books, email: sales@gazellebooks.co.uk, Tel: 01524 68765.
