A baby for Grace ISBN: 9780753402061

Published by Kingfisher, 1998

This one is for a very young child who is feeling left out when a new baby arrives. Grace must be told 'no' about so many things when dad is busy planning for mum's return from hospital. She doesn't understand that she must sleep in her own bed, that she mustn't pour the milk herself, that helping to paste the wallpaper it too messy for a little girl, and that grandad can't let her open the baby's parcel. There are such a lot of no's, and when the adults seem so positive about the baby, one last no - for using the shears to cut flowers - is one too many. She bursts into tears, and dad understands that she wanted the flowers for the baby. Then there is time for Grace and she feels loved again. The pictures are outstanding, a combination of soft colours with a glow of light about them that gives great warmth. Wonderful!
