In dark, chalky, dramatic pictures, we meet George, a little black dog, who is so jealous of Lily's new in-line skates that he steals them. He has wanted a pair just like hers, and when he gets his own for his birthday, he begins to realise how much he has hurt Lily. He gets bored skating on his own, and finally puts Lily's skates back where she can find them. It must be said that George still has to be top dog: 'I'm much faster than she is'. The lesson that is learned is quite subtle and George isn't really very lovable. The tone is realistic, and it is plain that these are children and not dogs.
