Maxine and Minnie are very different, but they are best friends. Maxine is big, loud and colourful, and she uses a wheelchair. Minnie is quiet,, shy and mouse-like, but they complement each other. Very little is made of Maxine's disability; in fact, it is mentioned only at the beginning of the story and shown in one picture. She is a happy, ordinary child - a strength of the story. However, we learn nothing about any problems she has. Black and white illustrations and large print make this an easy read.
